Bank of Maldives (BML) announced the completion of a community oriented park in front of the school in Kelaa, Haa Alif Atoll, under its 'Aharenge Bank Community Fund'.

Opened by Kelaa based NGO Island Development and Environmental Awareness Society (IDEAS), the 'Kelaa School Fini Park' consists of a sheltered waiting area for parents and a designated space for students to park their bicycles.

"With the Community Fund initiative we are working towards supporting communities across the Maldives. The community park project by the NGO IDEAS will benefit parents and children alike and also create awareness among the community for the importance of green spaces. We hope that this project brings joy to the people of Kelaa", said BML's Manager of Public Relations Mohamed Saeed.

" Parents and students often had to wait outside the school, sometimes in the sun. Additionally, since there was no designated parking area, people parked their bicycles in various places".

"The decision to utilize the trees in front of the school to create a waiting area and parking space were finalised after internal discussions. We are humbled to have finished the project and for being able to support the community in such a way", stated an official from IDEAS.

During each quarter of the fiscal year, BML selects and allocates MVR 50,000 to five projects in the areas of education, environment, sports and community development under the Aharenge Bank Community Fund. In 2019, BML contributed MVR 1 million to support projects in 20 islands across Maldives.

For 2020, BML will select 20 projects across three proposal phases, and has set the phase two deadline for September 9.
