President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom departed for the atoll of Gaafu Alif on an official visit early Tuesday.
According to the President’s Office, the president is scheduled to first visit the island of Villingili to meet with its residents before heading for Gemanafushi island, which has prepared several welcome activities.
President Yameen will inaugurate a mosque developed by a private entity in Gemanafushi in addition to its new ice plant.
The president will also participate in a special ceremony in Gemanafushi to commemorate Fishermen’s Day.
President Yameen is accompanied by Minister of Tourism Moosa Zameer and Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Ziyad Baqir on this trip.
