The President's Office (PO), on Sunday, opened applications for three membership seats on the National Integrity Commission (NIC).

Interested candidates, PO states, can apply for the posts at the commission by submitting the application form available on their website, between 0930hrs and 1230hrs from July 19 to 21.

According to the President's Office, the state is accepting applications to fill the vacancies following the resignation of three commission members, including NIC's Vice President Hassaan Hameed and members Ahmed Ameen and Khadheeja Abdulla.

The three aforementioned individuals resigned after the Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions voted on requesting President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to fire them alone with NIC's President.

With these resignations, only two members remain in NIC -- President Ahmed Sulaiman and member Ahmed Jihad.

Jihad was appointed to the post at NIC during the incumbent administration.

As per the National Integrity Commission Act (27/2015), only the president can appoint and remove individuals from NIC.

Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM)'s President Aiminath Eenas and member Aishath Afreen also resigned from their posts on Sunday, while the Parliament's Gender and Human Right's Committee was building a case of firing members of HRCM.
