President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Wednesday ordered Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed to resign from his post.

As per the Spokesperson for the President and Chief Communications Strategist at President's Office Ibrahim Hood, staff from the Tourism Ministry reported to the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services and President Solih incidents of misconduct within the workplace.

"Due to this, Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed has been ordered to resign from his post by the President," stated Hood.

Upon queried on in stance regarding the incident, the Gender Ministry referred to the remarks delivered by Hood.

Following this news, Ali Waheed tweeted, stating that he was "proud to have served the nation" and that "time will tell the truth."

Meanwhile, a Police spokesperson stated they have received complaints of sexual assault against female employees of the Tourism Ministry on Wednesday night. Police also said that investigation is ongoing and that further information will be shared as the case progresses.

However, Police did not specify who the case was lodged against.
