There is no special reason for the recent dismissal of state officials, said spokesperson of the President’s Office, Ibrahim Muaz Ali.
Speaking to Mihaaru, Muaz said that political appointees are allotted to ease the president in running the government. Hence it is sole right of the president to dismiss them from the posts as well.
“Several people get appointed together, but this time several of them were removed. There is no special reason for it.”
President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom dismissed five top political appointees and four coordinators of Ministry of Youth and Sports on Wednesday, as well as two coordinators of Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure.
When questioned whether this decision was made to reduce government costs, Muaz did not deny it but rather left with no comment, saying that it is possible.
The five political appointees terminated are Mohamed Yasir, Mohamed zuhair, Abdul Ghafoor Latheef, Dr.Mohamed Ali and Mohamed Gubaadh Aboo Bakr, while the four coordinators terminated from Youth Ministry are Mira Mohamed Majid, Mohamed Shahuneem, Ahmed Nazim and Ahmed Zameel.
