The Prosecutor General (PG)'s Office, on Tuesday, revealed that the state did not possess sufficient evidence to charge former 'Disability Ambassador' Ahmed Hishan with sexual abuse.

Subsequently, the PG Office decided to recommend the police to issue a public announcement to collect further information regarding any other children victimised by Hishan.

PG Spokesperson and public prosecutor Ahmed Shafeeu revealed that Hishan stood accused of repeated sexual abuse against seven minors.

He disclosed that certain cases, involving allegations of abuse that occurred several years ago, were dropped after the period of limitation to file charges had expired.

As per PG Office recommendations, the police are urged to submit evidence-backed cases if any individual responded to the public announcement with reports of sexual abuse perpetrated by Hishan during the past eight years.

Various allegations have been raised against Hishan on social media including paedophilia and child abuse. While some victims gave official statements, others shared their experiences online.

After the case surfaced in late January, authorities withheld Hishan's passport, citing ongoing investigations and revoked his title as 'Disability Ambassador'.

In addition to receiving the designation in December 2019, Hishan was awarded the prestigious National Award for humanitarian contributions to society in 2014.

He is hailed by many as a hero for his efforts to improve the quality of life for those requiring financial and medical aid.
