Maldives Immigration Department announced that it will not accept medical reports required for expatriate visas from two private hospitals, ADK and AMDC.

Immigration released a statement with its decision regarding the largest private hospital in the Maldives, ADK, on Monday while AMDC was named as the second clinic on its reject list on Tuesday.

While ADK Hospital’s Managing Director Ahmed Afaal responded to this development with surprise at not having been officially informed by Immigration directly, an official of AMDC confirmed that the hospital has temporarily halted medical reports for expatriates following Immigration’s decision.

The issue of expatriates’ medical reports has cropped up amidst circulating allegations of medical report forgery for individuals inflicted with deadly diseases. However, Immigration has not disclosed specific reasons for rejecting medical reports from ADK and AMDC yet.

Immigration’s Controller Mohamed Anwar gave a cryptic statement late Monday that the decision was taken in connection to an ongoing case.

“After the investigation, it could become a permanent decision,” he warned.

Currently, Immigration is accepting medical reports released only by state-run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), Hulhumale Hospital, Medica Hospital, Crystal Medicals and Advance Medical Clinic.
