The Sri Lankan government announced that the island nation is gearing up to reopen its borders and welcome travellers with proper safety guidelines and precautionary matters.

Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Colombo Ratmalana Airport (RMA) and Mattala Rajapaksa Hambantota Airport (MRIA) will be operational starting from August 1.

Tourists must present a negative PCR test, no older than 72 hours, prior to boarding the flight and upon arrival in Sri Lanka.

Moreover, a minimum five-night stay in the country is also required.

All travellers will need a valid visa, issued for 30 days and extendable for up to six months after arrival. The visa fee is USD 100.

Visa application will require the following documents: Booking details at a certified accommodation, itinerary in Sri Lanka, return ticket and proof of medical insurance.

Sri Lanka closed its borders on March 19, to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the country, which currently records over 1,800 confirmed cases and 890 recoveries.
