COVID-19: Maldives records 9 positive cases, 36 recoveries

Health Protection Agency (HPA) on Wednesday, revealed that nine more individuals tested positive for COVID-19 while 36 patients recovered from the infection, raising the total number of recoveries to 644 in Maldives.

As per the agency, among the nine individuals (MAV1842 - MAV1850) are two Bangladeshi men aged 25 and 38, and seven locals aged 29-81.

With these developments, the total number of positive cases found in the country is 1,850 and the number of recoveries is 644. Till date, Maldives records 7 fatalities.

As one of the most densely populated cities in the world, Maldives' capital Malé has recorded a significant increase in COVID-19 cases following the first confirmed local transmission on April 15.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified the spread of COVID-19 as a global pandemic. The new strain of novel coronavirus has infected over 6.5 million people and claimed over 384,642 lives around the world. However, 3.1 million people have recovered from the infection.
