Vice President Abdulla Jihad proclaimed that a country can only develop with an upright leadership and that the Maldives is developing at a speed previously unimagined.

The vice president made the remark during his address to the nation at the ceremony held in Gaafu Alif atoll Villingili island to mark this year’s National Day on Wednesday.

During his address, the vice president stated that the infrastructural and economical advancements seen today are the due to the vision of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

The vice president lauded President Yameen’s transformational developmental agenda, highlighting that the past three years have marked an escalating development within the nation. He also expressed deep appreciation and gratitude to the president's initiatives to advance the nation.

Considering Afghanistan as a country full of natural resources, Vice President Jihad said such a wealthy country is today one of the poorest countries whilst the Maldives, one of the smallest island nations with a small population is growing its economy day by day.

While speaking at the ceremony, the vice president pointed out the importance of peace for the progress of any nation. He stated that if there is no peace in the country, there will be no progress or development for that country. He also stated that we can see this from the Maldives over the past three years alone.
