Judicial Service Commission (JSC) decided Tuesday to probe accusations made against Judge Ibrahim Ali of the Criminal Court claiming that he had issued an unlawful order.

In a statement, JSC stated that they made the decision to investigate the judge during a virtual meeting held between the commission members.

According to JSC, Judge Ali is accused of issuing a court order in violation of the Maldivian Constitution. The commission has put together an investigative committee to probe the case.

No further details were disclosed.

In addition to the allegations against Judge Ali, other complaints were also submitted to JSC including a disciplinary issue pertaining to Judge Hassan Najeeb of the Criminal Court. The commission had placed Najeeb under suspension last month.

JSC is presently probing some cases involving judges of other courts well. The commission had in the past terminated some justices over disciplinary violations.
