Housing Development Corporation (HDC) extended the deadline to apply for a 30 percent deferment on rent for a two-month period on flats leased out to the public.

HDC stated that individuals could send in their applications to [email protected] before May 15. Application forms are available on HDC's website.

The deferment is only available for tenants that have regularly made rent payments in the past.

Tenants will be given a minimum of one year to pay the deffered amount. If individuals face difficulties in making payments within the initial period, they can formally inform HDC and pay the defered amount as per the corporation's debt collection policy.

HDC has introduced online payments for all properties in the greater Male' region due to the lockdown measures implemented in response to the first confirmed community transmission of the virus.

Furthermore, HDC has also introduced a 30 percent reduction of rent on commercial units and land leased for industrial purposes as part of its effort to minimize financial impacts of COVID-19 on the public.

HDC has assured that they would grant additional leniencies in the future according to circumstances.
