The trial of former Minister of Defence, Ameen Faisal of Former President Mohamed Nasheed’s Cabinet, has been scheduled to be held behind closed doors by the Criminal Court.
Prosecutors have charged him with terrorism over arresting the incumbent President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom in 2010. Ameen Faisal was the Defence Minister as well as the adviser of the national security during that tenure.
The first hearing of the case is scheduled for Sunday, which the court has announced to be held behind closed doors. The court did not give any reason for their decision.
If the courts find Ameen Faisal guilty of the crime, he will be sentenced to jail for an estimated amount of 10 to 15 years.
Regarding the case, former Defence Minister of President Yameen’s Cabinet and the Chief of Defence Force, Moosa Ali Jaleel, was also interrogated by Police but has not been prosecuted yet.
