6 vessels up in flames in Mahibadhoo harbour fire

Maldives Police Service revealed on Wednesday that six vessels were engulfed in flames in a fire that broke out in the harbour of Mahibandhoo, Alif Dhaalu Atoll, around 0522 hrs early morning.

According to Police, a sea ambulance, police launch 47, Alifu Dhaalu Atoll launch, two speedboats belonging to the travel company HMHI Pvt Ltd and a dinghy were among the vessels that caught fire.

Although authorities confirmed that no individuals were injured in the incident, all the aforementioned vessels were burnt beyond use.

Police were able to extinguish the flames around 0745 hrs with the assistance of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and locals of Mahibadhoo.

Authorities disclosed no further details about the fire breakout, but assured that an investigation was currently underway regarding the incident.
