Health Protection Agency (HPA) placed Anantara Dhigu under monitoring after three individuals at the resort began to exhibit COVID-19 like symptoms.

Under Secretary for the President’s Office Mohamed Mabrook Azeez revealed that the foreign national and two locals were currently in isolation and that efforts were underway to conduct tests.

Two foreign nationals from Anantara Dhigu were previously confirmed to have the virus.

Maldives currently counts 13 confirmed cases of COVID-19, of which 10 are active cases. The country reported its first two recoveries on Friday, and a third on Saturday.

As of yet, no Maldivians have tested positive for the virus. Presently only tourists and resort employees have confirmed infections and there is no record of local transmissions.

Mabrooq stated that 721 of the total 738 COVID-19 tests conducted in Maldives were negative, adding that results from two samples were still pending.

The World Health Organization has classified the spread of COVID-19 as a global pandemic. The novel coronavirus has infected more than 308,200 and claimed over 13,000 lives around the world. However, out of those infected, more than 95,800 have recovered.
