COVID-19: MWSC to provide 1 tonne of water to every household

Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) on Sunday, decided to provide one tonne of water to every household in the nine islands it operates on.

Speaking at a press conference held by the company, MWSC's Managing Director Hassan Shah said that roughly 44,000 households will have access to one tonne of water directly deducted from their water bills.

According to the managing director, the decision to donate the water was taken in response to public concerns over a fear of increased utility costs during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The initiative will cost MWSC approximately MVR 3 million.

Shah also urged citizens to be mindful of minimizing unnecessary water usage at the time of the COVID-19 outbreak.

MWSC currently provides servcies to the capital city Male', reclaimed suburb Hulhumale', suburb Villimale', Maafushi, Gulhifalhu, Thilafushi, Dhuvaafaru in Kaafu Atoll and Kulhudhuffushi City in Haa Dhaalu Atoll.

Medical professionals maintain that the best way to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is by washing hands frequently and thoroughly with soap.
