The Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Friday, revealed that a foreign worker from Anantara Dhigu Resort tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases to nine.

HPA further stated that 11 individuals were placed under isolation after a contact trace was conducted and that monitoring mechanisms were arranged.

In addition to the case from Anantara resort, four foreign nationals from Kuredu Island Resort, and two from Sandies Bathala and Kuramathi Maldives each, tested positive for the virus.

Although all three resorts were put on lockdown, starting with Kuredu last weekend, HPA lifted the restrictive measures this Wednesday. A total of 249 tourists have already departed from the three resorts after lockdown measures were lifted.

Maldives declared a public health emergency under Section 33 of the 7/2012 Public Health Act, on March 12 for a period of 30 days.
