Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced Wednesday that two foreign nationals from Kuramathi Island Resort tested positive for COVID-19.

This development brings the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Maldives to total eight.

HPA stated that the resort remains on lockdown and contact tracing is underway to identify the people the two patients have come into contact with.

The agency announced earlier the same day that suspected virus cases from Vilamendhoo Island Resort and Spa, and One and Only Reethi Rah tested negative. With contact tracings completed for the two islands, their restrictive measures have been lifted.

In addition to the two confirmed cases from Kuramathi, the remaining six positive cases were foreign nationals from Kuredu Island Resort and Spa, and Sandies Bathala Resort. Both remain under quarantine.

Till date, no Maldivians have tested positive for COVID-19.
