Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced Tuesday that two more foreign nationals from Sandies Bathala Resort are being isolated, after they exhibited suspected symptoms for COVID-19.

The agency stated that the two individuals are close contacts of a confirmed case. Further monitoring and tests will be carried out at the isolation facility.

Two of the six positive cases of COVID-19 that have been detected in Maldives are foreign nationals from Sandies Bathala Resort. The other four were detected from Kuredu Island Resort.

Both islands are currently on lockdown, with the state's dedicated task force overseeing the affairs of those quarantined.

Restrictive measures were initially imposed on Kuredu after an Italian tourist who vacationed at the resort tested positive soon upon returning to Italy. The patient had also stayed at Maarigi Hotel in capital Male' for two days. Fifteen hotel staff who were in contact with the Italian national are now in isolation for monitoring.

Authorities have urged the public not to panic and refrain from enabling the spread of misinformation. Doctors also called on the people to observe good hygiene and best practices in the prevention and management of viral infections, and to seek medical attention at any sign of flu.
