Ministry of Tourism revealed Monday that presently there are 824 tourists on the two resort islands placed on lockdown over the COVID-19 outbreak.

According to the ministry, there are 699 guests at Kuredu Island and 125 at Sandies Bathala, where two foreign individuals tested positive for the coronavirus at each resort.

All visitors and staff on lockdown are being monitored and managed by the dedicated task force put together by the state.

In addition to tourists, Kuredu has 270 local and 420 expatriate workers on the island. Most of the latter are employees at another company, who were doing construction work on the resort.

Authorities have stated that the four individuals that tested positive for the virus are currently stable and being closely monitored. Ministry of Health also assured that contact tracings efforts are underway to identify other people that may have come into contact with the patients, and that the resorts and other relevant islands have been given proper instruction on how to handle the situation.
