Health Protection Agency (HPA) on late Sunday revealed that an employee from Kuredu Island Resort is being transferred to the quarantine facility in Farukolhufushi after showing symptoms of COVID-19.

As per HPA, the individual, who was in Shaviyani Atoll Foakaidhoo when symptoms showed, will be tested for COVID-19.

Speaking to the press, Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen stated that the necessary steps were taken as soon as the individual was identified. He further revealed that as of now, Sh. Foakaidhoo is not under lockdown.

HPA assured that they will be revealing further information in relation to this case.

Notably, the new suspected case is from Kuredu Island Resort, where the first two positive cases of COVID-19 from Maldives was found. Health Ministry on Saturday revealed that two expatriate employees, Kuredu's resident doctor and a management staff are now isolated at the quarantine facility in Farukolhufushi.

Both staffs are in a stable condition and efforts are underway to conduct contact tracings to identify and test individuals at risk of exposure to the virus.

The resort has been on lockdown after an Italian guest who holidayed on the island later tested positive for the virus following their return to Italy.
