MTCC to construct Hulhudhoo harbour for MVR 65 million

Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure on Sunday awarded the project to develop a harbour in the Hulhudhoo area of Hulhumeedhoo, Addu Atoll, to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) for MVR 65 million.

The project agreement was signed by the ministry's Permanent Secretary Zeeniya Ahmed Hameed and MTCC's CEO Adam Azim.

According to the planning ministry, the project consists of the construction of 742 metres of quay wall, 624 meters of revetment, 25 metres of groyne, 2,250 square meters of pavement, one ramp and a concrete bridge.

The agreement also includes the installation of 12 mooring blocks, 36 harbour lights and two channel lights, in addition to further dredging of the lagoon.

The project is to be completed within a period of one year and 10 days.

MTCC's CEO Adam Azim revealed that the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the harbour construction is currently underway. He stated that development would commence within 10 days of concluding the assessment.

CEO Azim further declared that MTCC is to begin 10 other projects across various islands within this month. He noted that the company is also working on road construction in Hulhudhoo as well as the harbour development in the Meedhoo area, along with a number of other ventures in the atoll.

Geographically a single island, Hulhumeedhoo is divided into two administrative constituencies, Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo, established respectively on the southern and northern halves of the island.
