Criminal Court on Tuesday added 15 days to the remand of a man arrested over the sexual abuse of his 17-year-old stepdaughter.
The 32-year-old suspect was taken into police custody earlier the same day, from an island in the North Central Police Division which comprises the atolls of Kaafu, Alif Alif, Alif Dhaalu, and Vaavu.
Police stated that they received reports of the crime on Monday night, but did not reveal further details other than that the investigation was underway, in order to protect the minor's identity.
There has been an upsurge in the number of cases of child sexual abuse reported to the authorities since mid-January. The police have made numerous arrests over the past month.
