Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure awarded Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) the MVR 7.6 million project to install coastal protection in Foddhoo, Noonu Atoll.

MTCC's CEO and Managing Director Adam Azim signed the agreement at a ceremony held at the Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure. Director General Shaana Farooq signed the agreement on behalf of the ministry.

The project will involve the installation of geobag revetment across a 180-stretch of shore near Foddhoo's jetty. A period of 180 days is allocated for the completion of the project.

Speaking to local media outlet Mihaaru, Foddoo council president Abdulla Shaamee revealed that erosion rates had recently increased, stating that approximately 50 feet on the island's north and northeastern sides had eroded.

He added that the erosion encroached about 30 feet into an inhabited area in northeastern side of Foddhoo.

Expressing concern over the issue, the council president stated that erosion was not a problem faced by Foddhoo in the past.
