Maldives Police Service revealed on Friday night that authorities seized over nine kilograms of drugs and arrested eight Maldivians over the course of two operations, planned to bring down a major drug network in the country.
Amongst those arrested were three males aged 25, in addition to males aged 23, 24, 27, 37 and 50. Police have yet to disclose their identities or further details.
According to the police, authorities inspected five residences in capital Male' were on January 31, as well as four residences and a motorcycle on February 6, with court orders based on reports by the Drug Intelligence Unit.
During the operations, police also found MVR 1,522,785 and USD 173831 which totals up to over MVR 3 million.
Maldives Police Service stated that Drug Enforcement Department is currently investigating the matter.
