President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih appointed the former Ambassador of Maldives to Pakistan, Ahmed Saleem, as the new Ambassador-at-large on Wednesday.

Saleem was presented with his credentials during a ceremony held at the President’s Office.

The newly appointed Ambassador-at-large first joined the Maldivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1968, and has enjoyed a distinguished career in the Maldivian Foreign Service for over 21 years. His previous positions include serving in the Maldives' mission to the United States, and the Maldivian High Commission in Sri Lanka.

Moreover, Saleem had participated in numerous sessions of the United Nations General Assembly, and high-level meetings of the Commonwealth, Non-Aligned Movement, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and various other international organisations.

He also served as the 11th Secretary-General of SAARC from 2012 to 2014.
