Maldives Police Service, on Friday, arrested four men over the gang rape of a 14-year-old girl.

Despite initial reports stating that the victim to be 17-years-old, the police clarified that the girl is only 14 years of age.

According to the police, they arrested a 21-year-old, an 18-year-old and two 19-year-old men in connection with the case, which was reported on Thursday at approximately 2015 hrs from an island in the North Central Police Division which comprises the central atolls of Kaafu, Alif Alif, Alif Dhaalu and Vaavu.

This is the latest assault in a series of child sexual abuse cases that came to light over the past week.

The first case, involving the sexual abuse of a two-year-old girl by her grandfather and great-grandfather shook the country on January 16, sparking public outrage and harsh criticism against the government.

The two men have since been arrested on child sexual abuse charges, while the victim's father was taken into custody over allegations of negligence.
