Maldives Police Service, on Wednesday, arrested a 73-year-old man on allegations of sexually abusing a 3-year-old girl.
The man was arrested under a court order at approximately 1300 hrs on an island located within the South Central Police Division.
The police are conducting further investigations into the matter.
Furthermore, the police reiterated guarantees that sexual abuse cases concerning minors are investigated with utmost seriousness.
The police further stated that the island and atoll in which cases occur are not reported in order to protect the confidentiality of victims.
