Seven judges take oath of office

Seven judges appointed to the Civil Court, Criminal Court and certain Magistrate Courts were sworn in by Aisha Shujune Mohamed, a justice of the Supreme Court, on Tuesday.

The following judges took their oaths:

- Criminal Court - Adam Mohamed

- Civil Court - Ahmed Abdul Matheen, Fayyaz Shathir, Aishath Fazna Abdul Ghafoor, Rizmeena

- Guraidhoo Magistrate Court: Chief Magistrate Fathuhullah Jameel Moosa

- Hirilandhoo Magistrate Court: Abdulla Hussain

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice President of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Masthoor Husny stated that the commission still received several complaints despite changes introduced at several courts.

He revealed that around 200 complaints were submitted to the judicial watchdog in 2019 and that the most frequently received complaint concerned delays in concluding court cases.

The function, held at the Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) was also attended by JSC President Hisaan Hussain, JSC Vice President Masthoor Husny, Parliament Speaker and JSC member Mohamed Nasheed as well as Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan.
