Police commence investigations into sexual abuse of 5-year old

Maldives Police Service on Saturday, announced the commencement of investigations into the sexual abuse of a 5-year old.

According to Police, the case of a 56-year old man sexually abusing a minor was reported on Friday evening.

Police did not reveal further information. It is unclear whether arrests were made.

Multiple allegations of sexual abuse and of cold cases are surfacing on social media as a result of the public outcry over the sexual abuse case of a toddler in Kanduhulhudhoo, Gaafu Alif Atoll, by her paternal grandfather and great-grandfather.

Although the two were arrested on charges of sexual abuse, the toddler's father was arrested for negligence. The three men were remanded for 15 days.
