Yumna Maumoon, the daughter of the divided ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)’s ousted leader and former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has been summoned to the Disciplinary Committee of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s faction of PPM.

The letter sent by the Disciplinary Committee stated that Yumna, who holds a chair on PPM's council, is to report to their faction's new office at Coral Reef house at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, regarding a disciplinary case filed against her. The letter did not mention further information on the case, but it warned that if the referred person does not send any names on her behalf before 2:00 p.m, the case will be conducted in her absence.

Amidst the ongoing political dispute between Yumna’s father, PPM leader and former president Maumoon, and her uncle, PPM's adviser and incumbent president Yameen, which split PPM into two factions, Yumna is backing her father and has been openly criticizing President Yameen’s faction.

Though the court has given the full authority of the party to President Yameen following a lawsuit filed against the elder Gayoom accusing him of impeding the party's effective functioning, Maumoon had previously suspended the Disciplinary Committee and made a temporary committee of his own choosing.

It is noteworthy that the committee had earlier expelled Maumoon's lawmaker son Faris Maumoon and some loyal members of the party from the Disciplinary Committee.
