Chinese Ambassador to Maldives Zhang Lizhong and representatives of the China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) on Sunday, met President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih at the President's Office.
During the meeting attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid and the Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof, CMEC shared the concept designs for the Olympic-standard stadium to be developed in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale'.
The stadium was sanctioned in preparation to host the 11th Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) in 2023.
Discussing potential avenues for bilateral cooperation, especially within infrastructural development, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih emphasized China's key role as a development partner for Maldives.
