62 percent cases settled without trial: Civil Court

The Civil Court on Sunday, revealed that 62 percent of cases lodged at the court were closed at its Dispute Resolution Division without proceeding to trials.

According to the court's statistics, the Dispute Resolution Division closed 2,253 out of 3,600 cases in 2019, which amount to 62.58 percent of cases received.

The Civil Court had received over 4,907 cases last year, in addition to the 1,781 cases passed on from 2018. The court had closed a total of 4,907 cases that made it to trial.

The number of pending cases at the beginning of 2020 is 1,574, out of which six cases are over a year old.

The Civil Court’s branch in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale' had looked into 244 cases last year out of the 251 cases lodged at the branch. A total of 77 cases are pending.
