The Ministry of Tourism confirmed the organization of a show to usher in the new year, on December 31 held in the capital city of Male'.
The event will mark the first state-sponsored new year celebration since President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's inauguration. The government did not hold any commemorative events for 2019's new year celebrations.
Several local artists including Shalabee Ibrahim, Zara Mujuthaba, Mohamed Shiuz and Boduberu group 'Naba' will perform at the show.
The Minister of Tourism recently asserted that the ministry would prioritize local performers for all of its events.
During the previous administration, the tourism ministry, in collaboration with with Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), regularly held new year celebrations.
