President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih attended a ceremony held on Tuesday at the National Art Gallery, to mark 100 years since the founding of the International Labour Organization (ILO).
During the centenary ceremony, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Economic Development and ILO, with Minister Fayyaz Ismail as signatory on behalf of the state and ILO Maldives Country Director Simrin Singh on behalf of the organization.
Prior to the proceedings, a special event was carried out to hoist the flags of Maldives and ILO while a video presentation dubbed 'Universal and Lasting Peace – ILO Centenary' was displayed at the ceremony.
In recognition of the special occasion, President Solih also presented the ILO Maldives Country Director with a commemorative coin.
Maldives is the most recent Southeast Asian member state to join ILO.
