Police arrested a taxi driver and 28-year-old man on Sunday night after a stash of suspected drugs was found inside the taxi.
According to Maldives Police Service, the vehicle was pulled over near Aa Sahara Cemetery following intelligence reports. Police confiscated eight rubber packets, which contained suspected drugs, found between the front seats of the car.
Police stated that the 28-year-old man was in the taxi along with the driver. They were both held in custody for a period of 24 hours.
Police further disclosed that the second man has a criminal record and, prior to his arrest, had been released on certain conditions under the Clemency Act. Police noted that the man was also taken under custody previously in a separate case, and thus they were working to hand him over to Maldives Correctional Service.
