MTCC to develop, upgrade harbours in 7 islands

Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure on Tuesday contracted Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to develop and upgrade harbours in seven islands.

Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure on Tuesday contracted Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to develop and upgrade harbours in seven islands.

The agreement was signed at a special ceremony, with Director General Fathimath Shana Farooq representing the ministry while CEO Shahid Hussain Moosa signed on behalf of MTCC.

As per the contract, MTCC will develop harbours under the 'design and build' policy in Landhoo, Noonu Atoll for MVR 35 million, and Mandhoo, Alif Dhaalu Atoll for MVR 37 million. Development is scheduled to be completed within 11 months, and one year and two months respectively.

The harbour upgrading projects, costing MVR 183 million, will be carried out in Hulhudheli in Dhaalu Atoll, Dharanboodhoo in Faafu Atoll, Rasmaadhoo in Raa Atoll, and Bileffahi and Lhaimagu in Shaviyani Atoll.

The total cost for the seven projects amount to MVR 258 million.
