Civil Court on Tuesday ordered former lawmaker Ahmed Nihan to pay MVR 959,000 to State Trading Organisation (STO).
STO filed the lawsuit against Nihan after he failed to settle the lease of a food court at the southwest harbour of capital Male' City.
In its ruling, the Civil Court noted that Nihan did not pay the rent of the food court in accordance with the agreement he signed with STO. The amount Nihan has to settle comprises both the lease and penalty.
The court granted Nihan a period of six months to settle the payment.
The verdict was announced in his absentia.
