According to the Ministry, the main objective of the day is to recognise fishermen, their families and the industry as a whole, for their contributions to advance the sector.
As part of its efforts to celebrate fishermen, the Ministry held a pole and line fishing expedition for youth on Friday, as well as the 'Fisheries Expo'. Moreover, the government, in partnership with the private sector, is preparing to host a fish gutting and fillet competition on Monday.
And that’s a wrap! 🎣

Although the contributions of the fisheries industry to the GDP of Maldives has declined over the years, the sector remains a major source of employment for Maldivians. Fish products are the main exports of the country.
