President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih nominated former Deputy Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem as the Prosecutor General (PG).

The president stated that he had forwarded Shameem's name to the parliament while three people had applied for the position.

The nomination was then forwarded to the parliament's judiciary committee.

In addition to Shaheem, former Deputy Prosecutor General Mariyam Nihaayath and lawyer Ahmed Zaheen submitted applications.

PG Aishath Bisham resigned from her position on November 28 while her impeachment case was ongoing in the Parliament's Judiciary Committee.

She was previously summoned and questioned by the Judiciary Committee over actions taken by the PG Office during the previous administration.

However, she maintained that she was never under any political influence, and stressed that her stance on certain matters changed only due to adequate reasons.

Moreover, at that time Bisham denied all accusations put forth by the Committee members suggesting that she neglected any of her duties and responsibilities as the PG.
