Elections Commission (EC) on Wednesday announced its decision to officially register Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) as a political party.

EC stated that the registration certificate will be awarded to MRM on November 25. The commission authorised the formation of MRM on October 2.

MRM is the third political party founded by former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. He previously formed Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) and Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), which he left due to various reasons.

MRM held the meeting to form the party on November 7, during which Gayoom was appointed as the interim president. The party also announced its decision to elect 10 men and 10 women to its interim committee.

Moreover, MRM has approved its party charter, which consists of total 10 chapters and 40 subjects.
