Afghanistan news agency Pajhwok Afghan News reported that Maldivians were among the Islamic State (IS) insurgents that surrendered to Afghanistan's government in Nangarhar province.
On November 16, Afghanistan's Ministry of Defence revealed that 615 fighters and family members surrendered following military operations.
Although the exact number of Maldivians captured is unknown, Pajhwok revealed that Afghani nationals, and individuals from Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan were also among those that surrendered.
The Maldivian government has yet to release a statement concerning the matter.
