Maldives Customs Service on Wednesday night revealed that over 2 kilograms of drugs were seized from two foreigners who arrived at Velana International Airport (VIA) from India.

According to Customs, the two Indian nationals en route to Maldives from Bangalore were carrying illegal narcotics, hidden in their luggage, which later tested positive as hashish oil.

Customs disclosed that the luggage of the individuals, aged 23 and 24, were inspected due to suspicions upon passing them through the X-ray machine.

Authorities estimate the street value of the seized drugs at over MVR 500,000.

The two suspects in the case were handed over to Maldives Police Service to conduct investigations into the matter.

Just last month, Customs seized 4.67 kilograms of drugs from an individual arriving at VIA from Brazil.
