Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances revealed on Thursday that reports detailing circumstances around the deaths of former MP Dr Afrasheem Ali and Raudha Athif were submitted to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

The commission revealed that the report on Afrasheem included information on the perpetrators that planned and funded the murder of the prominent religious scholar.

While the Police have maintained that the crime was premeditated and politically motivated, no details concerning the individuals who plotted the murder were previously revealed.

Afrasheem was discovered stabbed to death in the stairwell of his home in the early hours of October 1, 2012. Hussain Humam Ahmed was found guilty of carrying out the murder.

Raudha Athif, a medical student and well-known model, was found dead at her hostel in Bangladesh in 2017.

According to Bangladeshi media, her autopsy report confirmed that her death was suicide by hanging.

However, her family rejected the report, stating that there were too many inconsistencies and suspicions surrounding her death, implying that she was murdered. Her father Dr Mohamed Athif had taken the case to court on these grounds.
