Parliament appoints Chair, Vice Chair to Budget Committee

Parliament on Tuesday appointed Kinbidhoo MP Mohamed Niyaz as Chair and Alifushi MP Mohamed Rasheed Hassan as the Vice-Chair of Budget Committee.

Both the Public Accounts Committee and Committee on Economic Affairs will research the proposed budget.

Ministry of Finance proposed the annual state budget for 2020 to be MVR 37.5 billion, which is greater than the 2019 budget by MVR 8.5 billion.

This budget also carries a deficit of MVR 5.6 billion.

According to Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer, the budget is geared towards attaining five objectives as per the administrative's Strategic Action Plan (SAP), which categorizes expenditures under eight sections.
