President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Thursday appointed Fathuhulla Jameel as the new Commissioner General of Taxation, Asma Shafeeu as the Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation, and Hussain Fiyaz Moosa as the Information Commissioner.

The Letters of Appointment were presented to the new appointees at a ceremony held at the President’s Office.

The new appointments were approved by the parliament on October 28.

Fathuhulla Jameel earlier served as the Director-General of Audit and Investigation, and Director General of Revenue Services at Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA). He served as the Manager of Tax, Risk and Compliance at telecom giant Dhiraagu prior to his new appointment.

He holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Applied Accounting from the Oxford Brookes University, which he earned at Sunway University College, Malaysia. He is also a member of the Fellow Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

Asma Shafeeu served as the Director-General of Planning and Development at MIRA prior to her new appointment. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Accounting and Finance from the Oxford Brookes University, which she achieved at Nilai International University, Malaysia, and a Diploma in Accounting from the Association of Accounting Technicians, UK.

Hussain Fiyaz Moosa has served extensively in the media field, holding positions such as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Editor at local broadcasting station Raajje TV. Prior to his new appointment, Fiyaz served as the Founder and Managing Director of privately-owned marketing and media relations firm Komaakoalhi. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from Curtin University, which he achieved at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Malaysia.
