President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Monday, discussed difficulties within the construction industry with members of Maldives National Association of Construction Industry (MNACI).
Speaking at the meeting held at the President’s Office, top MNACI officials expressed satisfaction towards proposals in the 2020 State Budget. They noted that the budget promised a positive year for the construction industry.
They further expressed contentment concerning the government’s policies on labour regulations and the transparency of tender processes.
Discussions at the meeting also touched on the challenges faced by construction industry stakeholders, with emphasis on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
Some of the concerns voiced during the meeting include issues faced when foreign contractors contradict set rules and guidelines, lack of regulations governing logistics and transportation services in the construction industry as well as financial constraints faced by local companies.
During the meeting, President Solih inquired ways which the government could address challenges faced by stakeholders in the construction industry. The president guaranteed that relevant authorities would work with ministries to address concerns.
