President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Vice President Faisal Naseem took part in the official flag hoisting ceremony held on the occasion of the National Day.
The ceremony was held at the Republic Square, early Tuesday morning.
A special prayer was recited by the Imam of Masjid-al-Sultan Mohamed Thakurufaanu Al Auzam during the ceremony, which was also attended by senior officials from the government, including cabinet ministers.
National Day is marked on the first of Rabi' ul-Awwal every year, to commemorate the victory of Muhammad Thakurufaanu Al Auzam, ending the 15 year-long Portuguese occupation of the Maldives in 1573.
