Parliament approves MVR 64 mln budget for Auditor General's Office

The parliament on Monday approved MVR 64 million as the budget for the Auditor General's Office next year.

The budget was approved unanimously by the 82 members present at the sitting, without any further amendments to the report passed by the Public Accounts Committee.

Settling the budget for the Auditor General's Office is part of the mandate of the Public Accounts Committee. The budget approved for the ongoing year was MVR 50 million.

The bulk of the Auditor General's Office budget for the coming year comprises of staff remunerations, with over MVR 43 million to be expended as salaries and allowances.

During the sitting held Monday, the parliament also accepted an amendment to the Act on Decentralisation of the Administrative Divisions of Maldives, and an amendment to the Constitution seeking to extend council terms from three to five years.

In addition, the parliament approved to appoint Ambassador of Maldives to Saudi Arabia Mohamed Khaleel as the Ambassador to the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC), and forwarded some resolutions to the relevant committees for further review.
