Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid on Wednesday met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand Don Pramudwinai.

The meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Thailand.

During this meeting, both diplomats discussed various aspects of the bilateral relations between Thailand and Maldives.

Minister Shahid conveyed greetings on 40 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He also expressed gratitude at the government of Thailand's decision to include Maldives in the Thai Visa Exemption Scheme for tourists.

The Foreign Minister also noted the need for Maldivians to enter into a comprehensive visa waiver agreement to ease travel between the countries, stating that this would promote medical tourism to Thailand and assist the Maldivians that travel to Thailand for medical purposes.

They discussed improving air connectivity between Thailand and Maldives, as it would improve the tourism industry. Minister Shahid highlighted Bangkok Airways' plan to increase flights to Maldives to two a day starting next year.

Both Ministers stressed the significance of strengthening cooperation between both countries for the attainment of mutually beneficial developmental goals.

The recent investment of Singha Group was highlighted as a key project that would attract more Thai investments to Maldives.

Foreign Minister of Thailand hosted a luncheon in honour of Minister Shahid.

Senior officials of the Thai Foreign Ministry, Minister Shahid's delegation and members of the Maldivian consul in Thailand attended this luncheon.
